Joliet West opened its season with a 63-45 victory Monday over Aurora Central in the Joliet West Thanksgiving Classic behind 12 points each from Marlon Johnson, Dominique Arrington and Carl Terrell. Brandon McCullum had nine points and Morris Dunnigan seven for the Tigers.
“We had a great start and a great finish,’’ Joliet West coach Luke Yaklich said.
West raced to a 7-0 advantage, had it shrink to 13-11 later in the first quarter and then recovered to go ahead 36-26 at halftime. The Tigers held Aurora Central to 19 second-half points.
“We kept them off the foul line,’’ Yaklich said of increasing the lead in the second half. “They didn’t have any easy points at the line. And we got back in transition much better in the second half.’’
