Boys Basketball: Warren’s Chuck Ramsey to step down at end of season

The topic has been discussed since the start of preseason, always in terms of how great it would be for the coach to go out on top.
And Friday, it was made official.
Chuck Ramsey is stepping down at the end of the upcoming season.
This will be Ramsey’s 37th year as a coach at Warren and his 19th as varsity head coach.
Prior to taking over for Darrel Bader, Ramsey served as the sophomore head coach for 14 years, varsity assistant for three years, and a volunteer in the program for one year.
During the past 18 years, he has a record of 377-138 (an average of 21 wins per season), which includes nine conference titles, 13 regional titles, six sectional titles and two second-place finishes at the state finals.
In many of the years that the Blue Devils did not win the conference or the division, they were in the title hunt up to the last weekend of the season.
“I have enjoyed working with the kids here at Warren throughout the years and look forward to the challenges of the upcoming season,” the coach said as he prepared his squad for the season-opening Thanksgiving tournament at Waukegan that starts on Wednesday.
This year’s Warren team is expected to be the best in the northern suburbs, and another state trophy for the program appears very much within reach.
“Chuck has been a part of the one of the elite programs in Lake County for the past 37 years and during his 18 years as our head coach, he’s taken our program to the next level by making us a highly competitive program at the state level,” said Warren athletic director Mark Pos.
“I look forward to watching Chuck’s last team here at Warren and hope it can be a successful end to a very remarkable career here at Warren.”
Sometime toward the end of the season, Warren will have a night to recognize Ramsey and his accomplishments with the Devils.
