A familiar name is taking the reigns at York, as former Gordon Tech and DePaul star Tom Kleinschmidt was named boys basketball coach on Thursday.
Kleinschmidt was an assistant coach under Dominic Cannon last season.
“I feel blessed and fortunate,” Kleinschmidt said. “The people here really believed in me with great parents, kids and resources. I had an opportunity to be in the building throughout the year so I’ve gotten to know a lot of people.”
Kleinschimdt spent three years at DePaul in various positions in the athletic department.
“When I left DePaul I tried to stay at the college level locally, but it was tough finding anything,” Kleinschmidt said. “I had spend 13 years on the road playing, and wanted to spend some time at home. College coaches are on the road all the time and I didn’t want to do that again.”
Kleinschmidt played at DePaul from 1991-1995 and was a McDonald’s All American at Gordon Tech.
