Future Illini watch

Illinois men's basketball recruits Nnanna Egwu of St. Ignatius and Mycheal Henry of Orr will square off at 6:45 p.m. Sunday when their teams meet in the MLK Dream Classic at Young. On the girls' side, once-beatens Lincoln Park and Loyola will face off at 9 a.m. Monday. There's also a drumline competition scheduled for late Saturday afternoon.

At Willowbrook, a battle between 2010 girls state champions will go down at 7 p.m. Monday between Bolingbrook (4A) - with Tennessee-bound senior Ariel Massengale and Connecticut-bound junior Morgan Tuck - and unbeaten Montini (3A) - with Notre Dame-bound guard Whitney Holloway and North Carolina signee Whitney Adams. Carmel (Ind.) will play Young's girls, featuring guards Chanise Jenkins (DePaul) and Kiana Johnson (Michigan State) at 7 p.m. Saturday.

In the game before that, Geneva - with guards Kat Yelle (Ohio) and Ashley Santos - plays Pickerington North (Ohio). Carmel (Ind.) also meets Fenwick, led by the senior trio of Kathleen Roche, Kyra Navarrete and Sarah Williams, at 10 a.m. Monday in the 21st year for the McDonald's event.

Paulson perfect

When Glenbard East senior Derek Paulson bowled a 300 game in December, ‘‘it kind of was a surprise,'' Rams coach Jerry Anderson said. ‘‘He was just trying to hit his spot, but by the 10th frame, everyone was buzzing around, and as soon as he shot it, his teammates mobbed him.'' It was part of a 700 series for Paulson. For Anderson, it was the second perfect game from one of his bowlers in a year. In last year's sectional, then-senior Dennis Johnson rolled a 300 that qualified him for the state finals.

Coaching clinic

Guest speakers at the seventh annual Wheaton North football clinic on Jan. 22 will include Northwestern superbacks coach Bob Heffner, Ball State linebacker coach Deion Melvin, University of Dubuque coach Stan Zweifel and coach Dan Appino of Class 6A football champion Rockford Boylan.
