With a team full of stars, Hales relied on center Dominique Walls' 19 points, nine rebounds and four blocks to defeat Proviso West Tuesday in nonconference action. Also on Tuesday, Thornton's Antonio Levy knocked down 5 of 6 free throws in overtime to carry the Wildcats past Bloom.

Two exciting Public League Playoff semifinals took place on Wednesday. In the first matchup, Brooks took down Curie behind Mike Powell's 24 points. But the biggest news of the night came when Young stunned Simeon, ending the Wolverines' perfect season. Derrick Randolph led the Dolphins with 20 points, nine assists and five steals.

The Public League all-conference teams were announced on Thursday.

A busy Friday was highlighted by Brooks claiming its first city basketball title in a win over Young. De La Salle's strong defense prevailed vs. Hales in another highly-anticipated matchup. Behind the play of Illinois-bound center Nnanna Egwu, St. Ignatius powered past Loyola in overtime. Egwu had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Downers South took down conference foe Proviso East.

Multiple rivalry games took place on Friday as well as Joliet West beat Central, Batavia edged out Geneva and Plainfield North ended a losing streak vs. Central.

The marquee matchups on Saturday occurred at the City/Suburban Showdown at UIC, which was kicked off by Spencer Mahoney's late bucket lifting Lyons over Proviso East. In the second game, Morgan Park narrowly defeated Rock Island in a matchup of two elite Class 3A squads.

The third matchup was a game circled on many people's calandars when the season started, and lived up to expectations as Benet held off multiple Simeon runs to edge the Wolverines in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup.
