BOYS SOCCER: Virtually every preseason write-up on St. Charles North began by noting the North Stars graduated nine of 11 starters, generally a precursor to a major rebuilding season. But when the 2011 campaign was coming to a close, there was St. Charles North in the Class 3A Sweet Sixteen. And without question, the major player responsible for the North Stars being a 2-1 loss shy of the Elite Eight with a better record percentage-wise was Tyler Davis — The Courier-News Player of the Year.

The Vikings went on to win 5-1 in Tuesday’s IHSA Class 3A Maine South Supersectional to earn a berth in the state’s final four. Fremd will compete in a state semifinal on Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. at Lincoln-Way North.
