Tuesday’s summer baseball roundup

Joliet Catholic 5, Marian Catholic 4: The visiting Hilltoppers opened a 5-2 lead after 4 1/2 innings and held off the Spartans. Brett Lilek was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for Marian.

Lincoln-Way North 12, Rich Central 2: Jack Troika hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Reed Herd drove in three runs to power the Phoenix (3-0). Josh Reid (1-0) was the winner.

Marian Catholic 8, Brother Rice 5: Devin Pickett, Brad Bohlen and Brent Feldner all went 2-for-3 to lead the host Spartans (2-2) to victory in their second game of the day. Pickett scored twice and stole a base, Bohlen drove in two runs and scored another, and Feldner added an RBI.

Mount Carmel 5, Oak Lawn 4: Frank Kelly was 1-for-2 with a hit by pitch, two runs and one RBI as the Caravan edged the Spartans. Justin Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Mount Carmel, which scored three in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie. Rob Kometas hit a solo homer for Oak Lawn (6-1) to tie the score in the sixth, while Nick Mosewecz (double) and Kyle Smith drove in runs in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Matt Dunne pitched four-hit ball over six innings for Oak Lawn.
