Monday's baseball roundup
Providence 13, De La Salle 7: Austin Vasquez went 3 1/3 allowing two earned runs and four hits while striking out two and walking four in the win for No.1 Providence (13-0, 3-0 Catholic Blue). Kevin DeFilippis finished 3-for-3 with two walks and two RBI while Dominic Olszta and Brady Wilkin each went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Mount Carmel 9, St. Joseph 0: Tyler Laurisch pitched a complete game and struck out six for No.5 Mount Carmel (16-1, 4-0 Catholic Blue). Beau Filkins was 2-for-4 with two walks and three RBI from the plate. Sam Kint finished 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
St. Laurence 16, Bishop McNamara 4: Mike Chimera went four innings and scatter five hits while striking out five in the No. 10 St. Laurence (14-3) win. He also finished 2-for-4 from the plate, hitting a three-run homer and two-run double.
Beecher 14, Grant Park 0: Josh Harris earned the win for Beecher, going three innings and allowing no hits while striking out seven. He also finished 1-for-2 with three runs scored. Tim Schlaudraf went 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored while Zach Darabaris finished 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI. Chuck Karl went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored.
Coal City 4, Westmont 3: Danny Darling hit the game-winning RBI for Coal City (9-6).
Illinois Lutheran 19, St. Anne 1: Colton Moore (2-2) pitched Illinois Lutheran (6-4) to the victory going four innings and allowing three hits while striking out three. Zach Sager finished 4-for-4 with four RBI and four runs scored.
Manteno 9, Peotone 0: Paul DuFrain (4-0) pitched a complete game for Manteno (13-3, 4-0 Interstate Eight South) allowing three hits and striking out 12. Nick Kirchschlager finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and J.J. Witherow went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Ryan Sample finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Reed-Custer 3, Herscher 2, 8 inn.: Grant VanHaelst (5-2) pitched a complete game in the Reed-Custer (10-9, 2-2 Interstate Eight South) win, allowing two earned runs and five hits while striking out eight. He also hit the game-winning homer. Alex Hagberg also added a home run.
