Top-ranked Burlington Central extended its winning streak to 20 games with a pair of wins Friday in the Stone City Jamboree in Minooka.
The Rockets (28-1) defeated Plainfield South 6-3 in eight innings and toppled Lemont 7-4.
We dont see this competition every day like they do, Burlington Central coach Scot Sutherland said. So we had to come down and prove we belong.
Plainfield South (22-7) tied the game at 2 on a solo homer by Jackie Frey in the bottom of the seventh. But Burlington Central scored four runs in the eighth with RBI from Samantha Gruner and Abby Morrow and a two-run error.
Against Lemont, Brittany Priest (three RBI) and Brooke Porto had two-run doubles to highlight a five-run sixth.
Kristen Preissler hit a three-run homer for Lemont (18-10) in the seventh.
* Lake Zurich's Katie Buczynski (22-2) had a season-high 17 strikeouts and drove in the game's only run with a double in the top of the ninth in a 1-0 win over Joliet Catholic (20-7).
* Dusty Miller and Kara Walsh each smashed three-run homers in the top of the seventh as Marian Catholic (25-5) stunned No. 7 Lincoln-Way Central with seven runs in the seventh inning en route to a 7-1 victory.
* Chloe Oprzedek and Michelle Karr each hit two-run homers as Providence (21-10) shutout West Aurora 8-0 in a game called because of darkness in the sixth inning. Providence improves to 21-10 and West Aurora falls to 17-12.
* Rachel Larson and Courtney Dunker each had three hits and three RBI as No. 7 Lincoln-Way Central (24-8) rebounded from its earlier loss for a 9-4 victory over Lake Zurich (25-5).
* Stagg (24-7) scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to stun No. 4 Bartlett 5-3. Julie Sherman and Jackie Roth each had RBI in the inning, which also featured two errors and a wild pitch. Bartlett falls to 26-6.
