Zion-Benton sophomore Lenzelle Smith knew he would have his hands full against Oak Park at the Lane Thanksgiving Tournament Tuesday.
"I knew I was going to guard one of the best players in the country [Iman Shumpert]," Smith. "He can drive, he can shoot it, he's very tough to handle."
Smith was able to handle Shumpert and it keyed the Zee-Bee's 68-58 win.
It wasn't just a defensive gem for Smith. He finished with a game-high 19 points. Senior guard Rodney Clinkscales was the force behind Zion-Benton's fourth quarter comeback. He scored nine of his 18 points in the final quarter.
Shumpert finished with 16 points but the Huskies (1-1) were totally shut down in the fourth quarter. They didn't manage a field goal until Shumpert's basket with 11 seconds to play.
Antonio Stewart added six points and nine rebounds for the Zee-Bees (2-0).
Evanston beat Mount Carmel 55-45 in an earlier game. Ryan Frazier scored 13 to lead the Wildkits (1-1). Desmond Young scored 14 for the Caravan (1-1).
