Boys Basketball: Lake Forest beats Zion-Benton again
Updated: February 3, 2012 11:32PM
Ryan Roach scored 16 points and Lake Zurich went on an 11-2 run in the fourth quarter to knock off short-handed Zion-Benton 54-46 on Friday in a North Suburban Lake game.
The Zee-Bees (8-11 overall, 2-7 in the division) played without sophomore standout Milik Yarbrough who was on the Bees’ bench in street clothes.
Zion coach Don Kloth did not comment on why Yarbrough didn’t play.
Lake Zurich led 22-20 at halftime and it was 35-32 for the Bears (14-10, 4-5) after three quarters.
At the start of the final period, Lake Zurich went on its run to take command and the Zee-Bees couldn’t get all the way back.
They pulled within 46-42 with 1:51 left when Devonte Nicks scored eight straight points.
But the Bears then hit free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
This was the third time this year Lake Zurich beat Zion-Benton, with all three games competitive.
Two of the games were division contests and the third was in the Jacobs holiday tournament.
Next up for Zion-Benton is a home game on Saturday night against rival Warren.
This game is a rescheduled contest, as it was postponed in early January due to a teachers strike in Zion.
Next week, Zion has games on Tuesday against Mundelein at home and then will play at Warren next Friday — two games in six days against the area’s best high-school basketball team.
