It doesn’t seem to matter who’s quarterbacking at York. For the second consecutive game, the Dukes used two quarterbacks and put up enough points for a victory.

The combination of Joe Lucca and Andrew Iwaszkiewicz threw three touchdown passes and totaled 211 passing yards in a 39-14 nonconference win over Hinsdale South in Elmhurst.

Lucca played the first half and into the second half until Iwaszkiewicz relieved.

Jordan Preuss caught three passes for 54 yards, all of them for touchdowns for the Dukes (1-1).

York’s new spread offense is piling up points and plenty of yardage. It didn’t pay off in a victory in Week 1, but the Hornets couldn’t find a way to stop new-look York in Week 2.

“(The offense) is awesome,” Preuss said. “It’s all passing. Me and (Davi)] Byerley and (Mik)] Despinich can make some great catches.”

Hinsdale South did not help itself with three turnovers in the first half. One of them opened the game when D.J. King fumbled Sean McDaid’s opening kickoff. York recovered the ball at the 18-yard line and needed only one play to score on Joe Lucca’s touchdown pass to Jordan Preuss.

Preuss scored to end York’s next possession, catching a 3-yard TD pass from Lucca to cap a six-play, 70-yard drive. McDaid missed the point-after kick. Lucca completed his first five passes in the first half and had 105 yards passing in the first half.

York used two quarterbacks in its season-opening, 50-49 loss to Rolling Meadows. The duo combined for 463 passing yards and threw seven TD passes. Preuss, who caught six passes for 103 yards, had only two catches in the first half against the Hornets, both for touchdowns.

Byerley, who caught four touchdowns and had 266 yards receiving in the opener, had three catches for 78 yards in the first half Friday night.

York took a 19-0 lead into halftime on Ken Boesenberg’s 1-yard run with 4:12 remaining before the break. That drive was set up by a botched punt snap by the Hornets, which cost Hinsdale South minus-31 yards and put the ball at the 16 for York.

Hinsdale South’s third turnover in the first half came when quarterback D.J. Deolitsis was intercepted late in the second quarter.

The Hornets did not reach York territory until there were 34 seconds remaining in the first half. The Dukes outgained the Hornets 136-73 in the first half.

York changed its offense from a Wing-T to the spread before the season. Lucca, who shared time with Iwaszkiewicz in the first game, played the entire first half in the second game. Lucca went 9-for-15 for 141 yards in the game.

Keontae Hall led Hinsdale South with 117 yards on 22 carries. The Hornets (1-1) scored on Deolitsis’ 8-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and Devonte Washington’s 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

“Anything that could go wrong, did go wrong,” Hinsdale South coach Mike Barry said. “We definitely need to get better.”
