Wheaton North’s Mike Trumpy may be the best running back in Wheaton, but Wheaton Warrenville South is still the best team.

Michael Piatkowski completed 12 of 16 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns and running back Peter Jarrett carried 17 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns as the No. 3 Tigers rolled to a 32-20 win in front of 4,000 spectators at Wheaton North.

‘‘Trumpy is a great running back and we knew we had to contain him,’’ WW South linebacker Mark LaBelle said. ‘‘We came up with a couple of big turnovers. Our goal was to get better each week and get ready for bigger games in the future.’’

Trumpy (20 carries, 159 yards, two touchdowns) scored on a 30-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter to tie the game at 7. But WW South (7-0, 5-0 DuPage Valley) scored twice in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 19-7 lead into the break.

Wheaton North (4-3, 2-3) closed to 19-14 on a nine-yard touchdown run by Trumpy, but WW South scored on its next two possessions. ‘‘We had our chances and didn’t take advantage of them,’’ North coach Matt Foster said.
