Wheaton co-op’s Darren Fill is just never satisfied. Even with winning the all-around title and three individual events at the boys’ gymnastics sectional Wednesday at Wheaton Warrenville South, Fill was not completely happy.
“I am a hard critic, especially on myself,” said Fill, who won the all-around title with a 54.70.
“I never want to stop getting better. That is the whole goal out here.”
Wheaton easily captured the sectional title with a 158.70. Elk Grove was second with a. 140.95 and Addison Trail was third with a 128.10.
“We were able to grind through our routines,” said Wheaton coach Chad Downie, whose team was eighth last year.
“We had a few bumps in the road, but we were able to get through them. I just wanted to make sure our guys were safe and get us through to next week.”
Fill won the rings with a 9.05 and the vault with a 9.40. He tied Glenbard West’s Adam Solowiej on the parallel bars with an 8.70.
Fill’s teammate Mike Brackman, who was third in the all-around with a 52.40, won the high bar with a 9.45.
Glenbard North’s Ryan Kennedy won the floor with a 9.55 and was second in the all-around with a 53.00. West Aurora’s Doug Sullivan, who was fourth in the all-around with a 52.00 won the pommel horse with a 9.30.
