It was a battle of running backs, between Wheaton North’s Mike Trumpy and Glenbard North’s Tyler Doll.
Doll came out on top.
The 5-11, 190-pound senior rushed for four touchdowns in host Glenbard North’s 35-14 victory over Wheaton North Friday night in a DuPage Valley Conference opener in Carol Stream.
Doll had a career night, rushing for 279 yards on 36 carries. Doll ran for touchdowns of two, 44, 25 and 38 yards.
‘‘All the credit goes to [the offensive line] and in weather like this everyone is going to run the ball,’’ Doll said of the constant rain. ‘‘I was excited because Glenbard North is power football, and in the slop all we do is power football.’’
No. 16 Glenbard North (2-1, 1-0) went up 14-7 with 2:09 to play in the first half when Doll scored on a 44-yard run.
No. 14 Wheaton North (2-1, 0-1) relied on Northwestern recruit Trumpy, but he mustered only one touchdown for 57 yards, and 96 yards on 15 carries.
