Young Carmel sweeps past Waukegan

Freshman Nicole Bitter fanned 16 and threw a three-hitter as visiting Carmel blanked Waukegan 9-0 to complete a sweep of Saturday's nonconference doubleheader.
Carmel won the opener 6-3, scoring four times in the top of the sixth to erase a 3-2 deficit.
Sophomore Erika Schoenfeld was the winning pitcher in the opener, as she outdueled Waukegan ace Stephanie Rodriguez.
"There's no 'young team' excuse for us," said Carmel Jason Raymond. "We have players who've been playing varsity ball for several years. Even our freshmen cone in with a lot of savvy and experience as far as travel ball is concerned."
Raymond started three freshmen and two sophomores in the first game, and four freshmen and one sophomore in Game 2.
Despite the young roster, Carmel is now 2-2, with losses to powerhouses Cary-Grove and Fremd.
Waukegan is 0-2.
