Record setter

Carlos Posada of Crete-Monee became the all-time scoring leader for Illinois boys soccer on Tuesday when he scored six goals in a 10-0 win over Rich Central, pushing his career total to 163. “It feels great,” Posada said. “I’m happy I got it over with and I can play as my normal self.” He took over the No. 1 spot on the career scoring list from Brother Rice’s Billy Savarino, who had 159 goals from 1990-93.

Pairings show

Comcast SportsNet Plus will carry the IHSA football pairings release show live at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22. Comcast Cable and RCN Cable will carry the broadcast on CLTV.

Shore Shootout

The schedule was announced for the second annual War On The Shore boys hoops shootout at Loyola Academy on Feb. 4. The host Ramblers will face Waukegan at 3 p.m, Evanston plays St. Patrick at 5 p.m. and New Trier plays St. Ignatius at 7 p.m.

Leeberg retires

Montini baseball coach Bill Leeberg has retired after coaching his alma mater for 34 seasons. The Broncos went 732-288 on Leeberg’s watch with 12 conference titles, 11 regional championships and two trips to state. Montini was third in Class A in 2002 and second in Class A in 2005.

Bears, IHSA team up

The IHSA and the Bears have joined forces to launch a concussion awareness campaign called “Get Defensive Against Concussions.” Bears players Brian Urlacher and Anthony Adams, along with a dozen IHSA athletes, produced TV and radio spots and took part in a photo shoot for posters and state progaram ads, all highlighting the dangers of concussions. The local prep athletes involved were: Payton’s Kaimara Herron (girls volleyball, Evanston’s Taylor Nakagawa (football) and Marian Catholic’s Sophia Sesto (girls water polo). Also involved was basketball and football official Octavio Herrera of Melrose Park.

Bowling stays put

The IHSA announced this week that the boys bowling state finals will remain at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon through the 2015-16 season. The state tournament been at St. Clair Bowl since boys bowling became an IHSA-sanctioned sport in 2003.
