Grant quarterback Alejandro Villa’s 10-yard touchdown run with seven seconds left capped a 98-yard scoring drive in the final two minutes to lift Grant past visiting Wauconda 44-41 in a wild and crazy North Suburban Conference Prairie Division football game.

Grant (2-2 overall, 1-1 in the NSC Prairie) trailed 41-28 with under 10 minutes to play before rallying.

Wauconda QB Branden Rowe (19-of-33, 345 yards, 4 TDs) also rushed for a pair of scores as the hosts built a 34-14 halftime lead.

Grant junior Kyle Whitman kept his team within striking distance after two quarters with a pair of touchdown runs of 37 and 57 yards, but the visitors still found themselves in a deep hole.

Grant put a dent in that hole in the third quarter when Jonathan Wells scored on a 27-yard run and Ryan Volpe added a two-point conversion to cut the lead to 34-22. It got even closer when Whitman found the end zone again, this time from 12 yards out to slice the lead to 34-28.

Whitman (24 carries, 303 yards) scored his fourth TD with 9:15 left on a 33-yard run and added the two-point conversion to make it 41-35 and set the stage for the dramatic finish..
