Justin Cokefair ran for 81 yards and one touchdown while throwing for 75 yards and another score, as Grant defeated Wauconda 14-6 Saturday in North Suburban Prairie game in Fox Lake.
The Bulldogs (6-1, 4-1) scored twice in the first quarter and let the defense takeover in the second half to preserve the win. Grant scored on its first drive going 65 yards in 11 plays with Cokefair scoring on a six-yard run with 7:19 in the first quarter. Dan Hourihan’s kick was no good.
Hourihan (16 rushes, 115 yards) scored on an one-yard run with 32 seconds left to go in the quarter. Cokefair’s conversion pass to Jimmy Cokefair made it 14-0.
“Defense in the second half really saved me,” Justin Cokefair said. “They really came at us in the second half, but the defense held.”
Wauconda (3-4, 2-2 North Suburban Prairie) scored on a four-yard pass from quarterback Garrett Dorsey to Nick Jay, making the score 14-6 with 23 seconds left in the second quarter. In the second half, Grant’s defense stopped Wauconda three times on fourth down to preserve the win.
Justin Cokefair completed 10 of 14 passes for 75 yards, while Dorsey was 8-for-16 for 117 yards and one touchdown.
