Wauconda's boys golf team did not survive as a team at Monday's Class 2A Lake Regional at Antioch Golf Club. But four Bulldogs extended their seasons after advancing as individuals.
Sophomore Henry Manahan shot an 84, followed by Paul Lindahl (89), Brandon Dill (91) and Bryce Lahrman (91).
The foursome vies for state berths at Monday's Woodstock (Marian) Sectional at Crystal Woods.
At the NSC Meet at Midlane GC in Wadsworth on Oct. 1, freshman Trevor Middleton (89) turned in Wauconda's best score; Manahan was next with a 91 for the 11th-place Bulldogs (374).
Meanwhile, Lake Zurich senior Tommy Paulson shot an 80 at Monday's Class 3A Prairie Ridge Regional at Prairie Isle, missing a sectional berth by 1 stroke.
"His game was coming together, and he shot a 78 on Saturday," Bears golf coach Terry Geoghegan said. "His consistency ... I'll miss that."
Sophomore Mike Nutter was next for LZ with an 82. Senior teammate Brian Repplinger carded an 83.
Nutter's 79, good for 11th place, was the team's best score at the NSC Meet at Midlane last week. It marked the first time he recorded a sub-80 round.
"What a time to do that," Geoghegan said.
Cross Country
Lake Zurich scored a huge victory on Monday, edging state-ranked Lake Forest 27-28 and also defeating Warren 23-33. Gerardo Perez led the way for the Bears by winning the race in 15:18. He was followed by teammates Andrew Morrison (4th, 15:28), Paul Geimer (8th, 16:13), Francisco Soto (9th, 16:18) and Jordan Pavlovich (13th, 16:33).
Tennis
Lake Zurich High School's No 1 singles player, Ingrid Brauer, won a tight tennis match to help the Bears edge Stevenson 3-2 on Monday.
The Bear topped Patriots junior Lindsey Hahn 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (6), as her team improved to 12-2, 4-2. LZ's other victors in the NSC Meet tuneup were Emily Rabe/Jen Hacker (No. 2 doubles) and Lindsey Thompson/Kristy Peterson (No. 3).
LZ was sixth (11 points) at Saturday's Rolling Meadows Invite. Brauer and Margaret Boden each won a singles match for LZ, while Rabe and Hacker placed sixth in doubles.
The NSC Meet starts on Friday at Grant. Lake Forest will be favored to claim the team title.
