Washington
2007 record: 0-9
Coach: Phil Corich (1st year)
Returning starters: 5
Players to watch:
OT/DT Malcolm Harris, 6-5, 260, Jr.
WR Carl Golston, 5-10, 165, Jr.
RB/WR Joshua Pellez, 5-10, 170, Jr.
RB/LB David Swiatek, 5-10, 170, Sr.
Outlook: After an 11-year absence from coaching, Phil Corich returns to the Minutemen's sidelines. He coached the school's only unbeaten regular season in 1997. Poor discipline and lethargic team morale contributed to the team's nightmare winless season last year. Corich is preaching discipline, toughness and team play.
Malcolm Harris has the size and athletic ability to dominate both lines. Carl Golston is a superior athlete with game-breaking abilities. Joshua Pellez and David Swiatek are quick and difficult runners with a knack for finding open lanes. The critical question is how the rest of the team is going to respond to the coach's get-tough methods.
Coach's take: "This is a slow process. It's a rebuilding year. We'll be very young, but I like the talent of what I see so far.
We've got some kids who can do some things. We're trying to change the culture, make the kids commit and realize they
have to do certain things. We're trying to instill some discipline and toughness and get some structure." -- Phil Corich
