Warren's huge second half flattens Libertyville

Updated: March 22, 2011 5:16PM

A lightning delay and some sharp passing from Libertyville

quarterback A.J. Schurr pushed the visiting Wildcats to a 14-6 halftime lead

in Gurnee on Friday night.

And then the weather cleared and Warren got serious. To the tune of 41-0 in

the second half. Warren (6-3) will head to the IHSA Class 8A state playoffs

following this impressive 47-14 romp.

"That was amazing,'' said Warren linebacker Gary Eppinger. "And on senior

night. This was our best team game we've played.''

A 45-minute lightning delay didn't seem to bother the Wildcats (3-6). Just

before halftime, QB Schurr (15 of 34, 273 yards, four interceptions), found Jeremy Birck

open for a 71-yard touchdown pass. That was the extent of the good news for

the Wildcats. Warren scored four touchdowns in the third quarter alone.

DaVonte Wilcox's 65-yard kickoff return set up the Blue Devils. From there,

Nolan Sordyl bolted 18 yards for the touchdown. Following a Warren

interception, Wilcox got into the act on a 45-yard touchdown run. Sordyl had

a 27-yard TD run following a Libertyville punt. Finally, Warren QB Bob

Boesch hit Kendell Harris with an 11-yard TD pass late in the quarter. It

was 34-14 after three quarters.
