Though matches against the league powers are still to come, Warren’s boys volleyball team has done everything it’s had to do so far in North Suburban Conference play.
That included Wednesday night’s 25-22, 25-19 victory over error-prone Lake Forest, which moved the Blue Devils to a league-best 4-0.
Stevenson is also 4-0 and Vernon Hills is 3-1. They are the teams to beat, and Warren coach Yun Chen is aware his team must continue to improve.
“We’re taking it one day at a time. We can’t afford to overlook anybody,” he said.
Wednesday, his 13-4 team was ready for dangerous Lake Forest (7-10 overall), and was in control most of the night.
Leading Warren players were setter Tyler Smith (23 assists), hitter Dillon Schaefer (nine kills), Eduard Ciobanu (eight kills), Drew Crawford (five kills) and King Gorospe (10 digs).
On the other side of the net, Lake Forest was committing 34 errors, which ruined any chance at victory.
Statistical leaders for the Scouts included setter Nick Steffens (13 assists), middle hitter Alex Flagstad (five kills), hitter Kyle Moore (four kills) and hitter Kris Hawkins (four kills).
Lake Forest led 10-6 early in Game 1, but couldn’t sustain the effort, and Warren was in complete control throughout Game 2.
Warren plays Friday against Lakes and Lake Forest faces mighty Stevenson the same night.
