Metering is ON

Walther Lutheran does it again

Walther Lutheran made it a three-peat over Timothy Christian Tuesday

night in order to avoid an upset in the Westminster Christian Sectional as the

Broncos posted a 47-36 victory.

While Timothy Christian (17-11) was hoping the third time would be the charm,

the Trojans trimmed a double-digit deficit down to three, 31-28, with 2:11 left

in the third period, but a 4-0 close for Walther followed by a 6-0 fourth

quarter start earned the Broncos (24-6) a berth in Thursday's championship

against Elgin St. Edward (21-7). The Lady Waves will also be hoping to avenge an

earlier loss to WLHS.

"We kept our composure which was key," Walter coach Todd Fisher noted. "TC made

a nice run in the third quarter, but we didn't get down and instead got our lead

back up. We wanted to crash the boards and in that third quarter we stopped

rebounding a bit, but thankfully we hit some big shots."

Specifically Melanie Ransom seemed to hit crucial three-pointers to stop Trojan

rallies or create a cushion for Walther. The sophomore guard nailed four

three-pointers as past of her game-best 18 points.

"Once I hit my first three I knew my shot was on and I just kept taking them

when I was open," she explained.

Isimene Edeko added 10 while Morgan Ransom added another seven for Walther.

Timothy Christian had 11 from Jordyn Platt and 10 from Cassidy Block.

"We had it back to within a possession with the ball, basketball is a game of

big moments and that was one," TC coach Todd Fisher noted. "We make one and it

continues our confidence and it would've motivated us, instead they closed with

that run. When the wheels go off, they go off quickly, so even though we won the

boards (38-34), we couldn't quite finish."
