Marvie Keith and James Crockett started the game in spectacular fashion. Von Steuben never quite caught its legs.
Crockett opened the floodgates with a dunk off a lob pass from sophomore Keith. It only went downhill for the Panthers from there.
Keith scored a career-best 22 points and Crockett added 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals as the No. 19 Warriors used a 24-6 first half run to blitz Von Steuben 68-28 in the marquee game of their Shootout Saturday night in Crete.
Crete-Monee fought off a sluggish start and led just 13-7 after the first period. Crockett took charge. He hit two three-pointers in opening the quarter by scoring 12 consecutive points for his team.
"We have a lot of good guards and they did an excellent job of getting me the ball in scoring situations," said Crockett, the DePaul-bound senior swingman. "Like on the dunk to start the game, we like to get the ball up and down the court, and that's what we were able to do.
"The guards can all shoot, too, so that creates for chances for me as well in opening up the floor," he said.
Keith ended the second quarter flourish with a three-pointer from the top of the key that propelled the Warriors (5-0) to a 30-13 lead at the break. Keith started the third quarter where he left off, opening with a three-pointer. He scored 12 of his total in the second half.
Senior center Greg Mays, the Wisconsin-Green Bay recruit still rounding into shape following a pre-season injury, managed just four points. He dominated the interior with nine rebounds and seven blocked shots.
Junior guard Michael Orris scored seven of his eight points in the third quarter.
Sophomore guard Demetrius Faulkner scored seven points and Devin Johns added five for the Panthers (1-1).
