Podkowa leads Trinity past Mac

Megan Podkowa and the rest of Trinity shook off a slow start and rolled past Mother McAuley 47-35 in GCAC Red action in River Forest.

"Early in the game, I just wasn't feeling it," Podkowa said. "Our coach [Ed Stritzel] gave us an inspirational halftime speech."

Trinity (17-3, 5-1) went scoreless the opening four minutes, but the Blazers closed the first quarter with nine straight points to take a 9-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The host Blazers increased their advantage to 19-11 at the half. Podkowa scored eight of her game-high 20 points in the third quarter as the Blazers pulled away with a 34-19 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Mighty Macs (9-10, 1-3) never got within 10 the rest of the game. Podkowa also pulled down 15 rebounds and had 7 blocks, while Taylor Nazon chipped in eight points for Trinity.

"Once our defense got going we were able to feed of that momentum and score on fast breaks," Podkowa said.

Molly Stasaitis led Mother McAuley with15 points.
