Sheridan's three scores leads Tinley Park
Tinley Park quarterback Kyle Sheridan knows full-well that he and the Titans offense will go only as far as the "big boys" up front will take them.
Proof of this was definitely on display Friday night as host Tinley Park rolled to a convincing 47-12, nonconference victory over Ag. Science.
The Titans front seven opened gaping holes all night, making Sheridan's job all that much easier.
"Our O-line did a great job tonight," said Sheridan (4 of 6 passing, 98 yards, five carries, 32 yards, three touchdowns). "Without their play up front, honestly, I don't think we'd have been able to do much tonight on offense at all."
Titans coach Nick Johnston was certainly pleased with his team's overall effort.
"Kyle did a great job tonight and we really got a great effort from all three phases," Johnson said. "We talk about taking our season in steps and after two steps we're 2-0."
Tinley Park (2-0) struck first early in the opening quarter after recovering a Cyclones fumble. Sheridan rocketed in from 12 yards out with 11:11 to play.
Trevor Rolette's PAT attempt sailed wide left.
Sheridan struck again with a minute remaining in the period, reaching paydirt courtesy of a 15-yard TD scamper.
The Titans two-point attempt was no good.
Ag. Science found (0-2) its way onto the scoreboard with 4:26 left in the first half when Courtney Ousley (16 carries, 66 yards, TD) ripped off a 12-yard touchdown run.
Sheridan found his way into the end zone for a third time following a one-yard dive with 2:20 left.
Rolette split the uprights and the Titans went to the locker room with a 19-6 advantage.
Special teams and defense were the name of the game after intermission.
Junior return man Gregory Wallace brought back the opening kick 85 yards as Rolette connected on the second of his five PAT's on the night.
Titans senior defensive back Julian O'Bryant gave the hosts a 33-6 advantage when intercepted Cyclones' quarterback Josh Powell and rumbled 71 yards to the end zone with 9:50 left in the third.
Hassan Abdullah took off on a 43-yard scoring jaunt with 8:23 remaining cutting the lead to 40-12.
Powell made his way into the end zone from two yards out with 6:57 left in the fourth as the Titans two-point try was unsuccessful.
Junior running back David Morgan broke away from the Cyclones' defense with 5:55 left, giving Tinley Park a 47-12 edge.
Michael Johnson (three recpetions, 56 yards) also performed well for Tinley Park.
