Recovering from a loss to Lincoln-Way North last week, Lincoln-Way West took charge in a 19-6 Southwest Suburban Red victory over Thornton on Homecoming Friday night in New Lenox.

The Warriors (4-2, 3-1) took control in the first quarter when running back Nick Dangles delivered on third-and-goal with a 1-yard touchdown run with 3:17 remaining. Cole Lukanus added the point-after kick.

The Wildcats (4-2, 3-1) scored with 3:28 left in the second quarter when quarterback Jowahn Brown threw a 20-yard pass to Jamel Frazier to make it 14-6.

Thornton got sloppy in the third quarter. A fumble by Brown with 5:21 left in the period was recovered by the Warriors’ Matt Sutor, but Lincoln-Way West was unable to capitalize when Lukanus missed a 37-yard field-goal attempt with 3:39 left in the quarter.

The Warriors’ defense stepped up with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, forcing a safety to make it 16-6.

Lukanus hit a 23-yard field goal with 3:23 left in the fourth to finish the scoring.
