Hill helps Bremen stay unbeaten

Bremen has found some pretty creative ways to stay unbeaten in 2011, and Friday night’s 21-8 South Suburban Blue victory over T.F. South was no exception.
A blocked kick and runback for a touchdown? A 55-yard interception return?
What is this, magic?
“We’ve just got a good team going on this year,” said one of the magicians, senior Walter Hill. “We’ve got faith in each other. We make big plays when we need to.”
In the big plays department, Hill made two for the Bremen (5-0, 3-0).
The first came with just under eight minutes remaining in the second quarter, when he launched his 5-foot-9, 160-pound frame into a field-goal try by T.F. South’s Brandon Ostrowski.
The ball was lying on the ground for a few seconds at the 30-yard line before Braves teammate Eric Jones picked it up and emerged full speed out of a crowd.
Jones went the distance, with Jones as an escort, after which Noel Sanders was good on the first of three PATs to put the Braves in front.
“They didn’t pick up the blocked ball so I just picked it up,” Jones said. “I was in the crowd and there was a bunch of arm tackling. But I got loose.”
T.F. South (1-4, 0-3), which found some success early with a Wildcat formation, but not the end zone, went more conventional later. The Rebels went in front with 2:35 left in the first half on a 3-yard sneak by Marlon Harris and a conversion run by Giovanni Canty (31 carries, 124 yards).
Bremen gnawed out good field position to start the second half, and started its second drive at the T.F. South 29.
Cedric Clemons completed a key 14-yard pass to Darrion Hunt, and David Smith (17 carries, 63 yards) plowed in from the 3 with 1:33 on the clock as the Braves went back on top 14-8.
Then, it was more Hill magic.
The clinching play occurred with seven minutes left in the final period when from his defensive back position Hill perfectly timed a pass by Harris, picked it off in full stride and ran it back 55 yards for a touchdown.
“I got a good break on the ball and came down with it,” Hill said. “I just needed a few moves and went for the touchdown.”
A hero, to be certain.
“It’s a team game,” Hill said. “Tonight we played like a real team.”
Unbeatable, so far.
