Lemont pitches third shutout of season

In some ways, Lemont’s 30-0 South Suburban Blue win over T.F. South in Lansing Friday night was a coach’s dream.

Eric Michaelsen got his starters out early, and still got to crab at them about some things.

“Every week we find stuff,” he said after the Indians improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference. “And we’ll find more tomorrow in the film — things we need to do to get better. Tonight, obviously, it’s the penalties.”

Lemont was flagged 14 times for 142 yards, yet dominated for its 17th straight regular-season win. It was the Indians’ third shutout in a season in which they’ve allowed just six points and 186 total yards — half of those to the Rebels (1-3, 0-2).

Turnovers cost South in the first half. A muffed punt set up Joe Hehir’s 25-yard field goal to open the scoring, and Jake Lemming’s interception — one of three for Lemont — set up a six-play scoring drive culminating in Tyler Jay’s one-handed grab of a pass from Damon Alemon (7-of-16, 109 yards, 2 touchdowns) for an 11-yard score.

Mike Anzelone (27 carries, 109 yards) had a touchdown in each half, scoring from three and 13 yards out, and Nick Theodore caught a 23-yard pass for the other score.
