Terrell on target for Crete

With Marcus Terrell earning the starting quarterback job, Crete-Monee coach Jerry Verde has said he wants the junior to be a “game manager” for the Warriors.

Making his varsity debut Friday night, Terrell managed the game and more. He threw for three touchdowns and ran for another in No. 17 Crete-Monee’s 32-8 win over T.F. South in Lansing.

“Give a ton of credit to [our staff] for staying on him because we were hoping he was a gamer, and he is,” Verde said.

“Hopefully he can build on this, and it’s all there for him. He didn’t have to create too much, but there were times he did.”

Terrell finished 21-for-27 for 237 yards while running for 40 yards and a score.

Nowhere was Terrell’s calm on display more than while he ran the two-minute drill to close the first half.

T.F. South had struggled offensively through the first two quarters but tied the score at 8 on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Marlon Harris to Jalen Woods with Giovanni Canty punching in the two-point conversion.

Getting the ball back with 58 seconds to go in the half, Terrell completed six passes for 68 yards, driving his team down the field.

He completed four passes on the drive to Lance Lenoir (six catches, 67 yards) and two to Brandon Sykes (three catches, 75 yards), hitting Lenoir on the right side for a six-yard touchdown strike with two seconds left in the half.

Working with a 15-8 lead in the second half, Terrell threw for a third score and ran 11 yards for another touchdown.

Carlos Posada drilled a 26-yard field goal.
