PORTAGE, Ind. — No. 11 St. Rita jumped out to a 25-point lead early in the second quarter, and hung on to defeat Portage (Ind.) 32-21 Friday night.

After St. Rita’s Zack Soria returned a 22-yard interception for a score to put the Mustangs (1-0) up 17-0 with three minutes left in the first quarter, Portage coach Jeromy Flowers circled his entire team around him for a pow-wow.

Portage outscored St. Rita 21-15 the rest of the way, but the damage had been done.

Portage cut the 25-0 lead to 11 before the Mustangs answered midway through the fourth quarter on a 4-yard Mike Zunica touchdown run.
