Girls cross-country: Suzuki wraps up solid season for Stevenson

Kya Suzuki didn’t back down when facing some of the top runners in the area.

The Stevenson freshman completed mile No. 2 in 12th place during Satuday’s IHSA Class 3A Schaumburg Sectional. Although Suzuki couldn’t quite hold her pace in the final mile, she still finished a solid 44th in 19:04.

The Patriots wound up 18th as a team in the action at Busse Woods. The other scorers were Mackenzie Levy (104th, 20:07), Kara Ballard (115th, 20:27), Emily Cunningham (130th, 20:48) and Lily Walker (141st, 21:26).

Solid races by a trio of Patriots helped the club finish 19th in Saturday’s Schaumburg Sectional. Jon Rice led the pack, taking 88th in 16:34. He was quickly followed to the chute by teames Samuel Oh (97th, 16:40) and Jonathon Kersky (101st, 16:41).

The other Stevenson scorers were David Bredin (138th, 17:09) and Thomas Russell (140th, 17:10).
