Carlos Boozer of the Bulls was the most popular person in the gym at Warren on Tuesday night.

The Bulls’ power forward came to Gurnee to see the Blue Devils host a Stevenson squad that featured freshman point guard Jalen Brunson, who is the son of one of the Bulls’ assistant coaches.

What Boozer saw when he wasn’t busy signing hundreds of autographs, was a younger version of himself dominating the game.

Nathan Boothe, Warren’s 6-foot-9 post player, poured in 25 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked 5 shots in a Boozer-like performance that led the Devils to a 64-38 dismantling of Stevenson in a North Suburban Conference Lake Division game.

Warren (14-2 overall, 5-1 in the division), hosts Mundelein on Saturday in a game that will decide the division title.

When Warren and Stevenson teams met in early December, the Pats won by a point.

This time, it was no contest.

“We came out with more energy tonight,” said Boothe. “We rebounded and defended well and we finished our offensive possessions.”

As for facing arch-rival Mundelein, Boothe put it this way:

“Our confidence is good. We have a big game this week. We want to win conference and that means beating Mundelein.”

Mitch Munda had 14 points, Darius Paul 10 points and four blocks, and Jameris Smith nine points and four assists for the winners.

For Stevenson (12-8 overall, 4-4 in the division), freshman guard Brunson had 13 points and senior star Mike Fleming 11.

Stevenson shot 13 of 50 from the field, and Warren had a 33-14 rebounding edge.

“We have a lot of things to work on. We still have a long way to go,” said Warren coach Chuck Ramsey. “We were good in transition both offensively and defensively and we rebounded well, but our execution at times was not as good as we would like.”

On the other side, Stevenson coach Pat Ambrose talked about Boothe’s performance.

“I thought we had good effort tonight, Ambrose said. “We ran into a very good team on the road that was gunning for us after that first game. Boothe was incredible. He had his way with us.”
