Jon Darling didn't score any points on Friday night.
But the Libertyville High School cornerback made a pair of monster defensive plays to spark the host Wildcats to a 28-21 Homecoming victory over Stevenson.
With the contest tied 14-14 early in the third quarter, the Patriots opted to go for it on 4th-and-2 from their own 43. Darling stuffed halfback Matt Harris for a 1-yard gain to give Libertyville the ball.
Ten plays later, Nate Johnson crashed into the end zone on 4th-and-2 for a 21-14 lead.
Darling resurfaced on the next possession. He intercepted a Zach Wujcik pass and returned it 26 yards to Stevenson's 30.
"We put in a coverage for that type of play," said Darling, who darted in front of Stevenson's Michael Bilton. "I thought I had a 'pick six', but there was somebody there.
"But we scored," he added. "That's all that matters."
Wingback James Zotto bumped the lead to 28-14 with a 1-yard touchdown run. On the night, Zotto collected 114 yards on 24 carries and scored 2 TDs.
The other Wildcat (3-3, 2-1) score was a 7-yard touchdown pass from Matt Persin to Kevin VerLee.
Stevenson (3-3, 3-1) grabbed a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Wujcik fired a 29-yard TD pass to Nate Johnson and then lofted an 11-yard strike to Bilton.
Wujcik finished the game 21 of 42 passing for 272 yards and 2 touchdowns.
