Two tremendous defensive plays by Zion-Benton in the third quarter made it close, but Stevenson regained control in the fourth quarter and went on to post a 35-19 victory over the winless Bees in a North Suburban Conference Lake Division game.
Stevenson led 21-7 before Eric Pasiewicz returned blocked field-goal attempt 89 yards for a touchdown and Tavaris Thomas returned a fumble 36 yards for another touchdown on consecutive Stevenson possessions.
The scores pulled Z-B within 21-19, but Stevenson regained its poise and scored twice in the final period to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Zion-Benton struck first when Jaevuan Moton scampered in from 28 yards out to put the Bees ahead 7-0 with 6:16 left in the opening quarter.
Stevenson regained the momentum in the second quarter with the help of running back Mark Weisman, who scored TDs on runs of 64 and seven yards to give the Patriots a 14-7 advantage they enjoyed at halftime.
