After getting blanked by Waterloo and seeing its record drop to 2-1 on the season, Homewood-Flossmoor made a goal for itself.

"We said we wanted to be 9-1 heading into conference play," H-F coach Todd Sippel said.

H-F can check that off the to-do list. The No. 10 Vikings got their seventh straight win, a 7-3 decision Monday over Stagg in a SouthWest Suburban crossover in Palos Hills.

Trailing 3-2 to start the top of the fifth, H-F found a few different ways to put up five runs in the frame. Ben Kirchler scored on a balk, Nico Kelly scored on an error and Justen Smith hit a sacrifice fly that scored Nick Brandt before designated hitter Elon Chamberlain delivered the big blow, a two-out, two-run homer.

"We told the kids we couldn't stress how big this win was for the team," Sippel said.

Dan Lietz (3-0) went six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five for H-F.

Kyle Belluomini had a two-run homer and Francisco Zavala knocked in a run with a single for Stagg (3-6).
