NEW LENOX -- Lucky, yet timely.

Lincoln-Way Central rallied from a 10-0 deficit midway through the second quarter to capture a 28-16 SouthWest Suburban Conference crossover football victory over Stagg.

"We're fortunate to win the game," Lincoln-Way Central coach Tim Dougherty said. "Credit goes to Stagg since their kids played hard. Their quarterback is pretty good and he gets my Heisman Trophy vote.

"But our kids did what they had to do to win the game. I thought Kyle Plarski did a great job under pressure and our receivers did a nice job with some tough catches."

The Knights (4-0), who had allowed only 12 points in their first three games, got a 71-yard scoring pass from Kyle Plarski (3-of-6, 136 yards passing) to Jeremy Kaplan with 5:19 left in the second quarter to pull within 10-7 at the break.

Stagg (1-3) took a 7-0 lead on the first play of the second quarter when Mike Demakes ran in from 2 yards out to cap an 86-yard drive. Following a bad snap on a punt a short time later, the Chargers took over on the Knight 14 but had to settle for a 22-yard field goal from Tony Angelos -- claiming a 10-0 lead with 7:05 left in the first half.

Leading the Chargers offensively were quarterback Brett Revoir (9-of-21, 183 yards passing, 15 carries, 55 yards rushing) and receiver Marty McCarthy (4 catches, 114 yards).

Chase Davis (20-61 rushing) scored on a 5-yard run just 2:41 into the third period to put the hosts ahead for good by a 14-10 score.

The key play on that drive was a 39-yard run from Pete Damiani (9-79 rushing) that moved the ball down to the Charger 5 yard line.

Central extended its lead to 21-10 with 7:03 left after Plarski snuck in from a yard out, following a 62-yard pass from Plarski to Matthew Taylor.

"Their quarterback is a stud," Plarski said. "So I really wanted to keep the ball in the offense's hands since their quarterback was playing good. I knew we to needed to start scoring and making plays.

"We came out flat in the game and we hadn't done that on offense. Even though we haven't passed a lot, I finally got a chance so I wanted to prove that I could do it. This shows that we can overcome anything."

Stagg pulled to within 21-16 with 5:31 remaining after Demakes scored on a 1-yard run.

But following an interception by Jeremy Wallace, the Knights wrapped up their victory when Damiani went in from 2 yards out with 0:37 left.
