Lincoln-Way West scored early and often en route to a 23-6 girls water polo win over visiting Shepard Friday night.

The Warriors (5-11) scored nine goals before five minutes had ticked off the game clock to take an early 9-0 lead and cruised from there, with 13 different players scoring.

"We worked on offensive movements and I think we got a lot of different people some playing time and experience at different positions," Lincoln-Way West coach Kristen Anderson said. "It was good to see and hopefully it gives the team a little shot in the arm."

Just 10 seconds into the game, Lincoln-Way West's Allison Rocha opened the scoring with one of her three goals on the night. Fourteen seconds later Emily Gallagher found the back of the net and 23 seconds later Sara Carse scored to make it 3-0 Warriors, one minute and 36 seconds into the game.

The Warriors led 9-1 after the first period.

"It was definitely one of our easier games of the season," Rocha said. "We were able to get in a lot of our subs and run plays. We made sure we worked on the little stuff like our defense and ball-handling skills."

Shepard's Nicole Jokubauskas (3 goals) made it a 9-2 game, scoring early in the second period, but that was the closest the Astros (0-8) would get.

Lincoln-Way West scored 14 unanswered goals from there.

"We need to be competitive with all the teams in the area, no matter what their record is," Anderson said. "Hopefully it tells the team we can win and tally up wins every day if we play like that."

Tori Tiberi, Emily Gallagher and Carse scored three goals for Lincoln-Way West, while Shannon Soukup and Morgan Judge netted two and Alex Gelhaus, Lauren Majewski, Gena Tanquilut, Meghan Sims, Catheey Eggert, Danielle Pinta and Megan Hozzian each scored one.

Renee Habbal scored two goals and Sam Dziadkowiec scored one for Shepard.
