Shepard upsets Evergreen Park

Shepard celebrated homecoming with a 35-21 win over previously undefeated Evergreen Park Friday night in Palos Heights.

"We showed them that a 2-2 record versus a 4-0 record doesn't mean anything," Shepard running back Tracal Davis (eight carries, 35 yards, two TDs) said.

Shepard (3-2, 2-1) broke out to a 14-0 lead off touchdown runs of four and two yards by Davis. After an interception by Evergreen Park defensive back Dana Choten Jr., Victor Baker (17 carries, 160 yards, two TDs) scampered for a 59-yard touchdown run to make it 14-7. That is the closest the Mustangs would get.

Randall Taylor (16 carries, 66 yards, TD) made it 21-7 Shepard with a 35-yard touchdown run to close out the half. The Astros forced three turnovers on the first three drives of the second half for Evergreen Park. Two of those turnovers were interceptions by Martice Weatherspoon, which he took back for a 35-yard touchdown return and 70-yard touchdown return to make it 35-7.

"I had to make up for interceptions I gave up at receiver, so I told my quarterback I would and I did," Weatherspoon said.

Baker added touchdown runs of one and 69 to close the scoring for Evergreen Park (4-1, 2-1).
