It was a dominating performance by Orr for the Public League over Catholic League power Seton as the Spartans rolled to a 71-50 victory Sunday in the MLK Dream Classic at Young.

The Spartans (11-3) led by as many as 24 points in the first half and carried a 59-40 lead into the fourth quarter. After building a 66-41 lead, the game became increasingly physical and Orr coach Lew Adams opted to run a delay offense.

No. 21 Seton (15-3) came in with great expectations but could never get going as Orr’s pressure man-to-man defense forced 22 turnovers.

Deshawn King led all scorers with 28 points, Devante Jones had 20 points, six rebounds and five steals, and Marquise Pryor contributed 14 points and eight rebounds.

Coach Adams said his team responded very well to the challenge of playing a ranked opponent.

“I told the team not to worry about rankings and where we are at this point but to play hard and we’ll get everything we’re suppose to have,” Adams said.

Jamal Mcdowell added eight assists, and Deshawn King had seven assists and five steals.

Seton coach Brandon Thomas said his team did not come ready to play.

“Orr is a very good team and they were well prepared,’’ Thomas said. ‘‘When the lights come on if you’re not ready to play this is what will happen.”
