Vikings have little trouble with Senn

When No. 8 Homewood-Flossmoor scheduled Senn for its 2011 opener, Vikings coach Craig Buzea didn’t know what to expect.
“When we were trying to fill the open date on our schedule, we couldn’t find a lot of teams to play us,” Buzea said. “We knew Senn was coming off a good season and we were told they had a number of players returning.”
So did H-F as the Vikings scored on every possession in rolling 76-6 in Flossmoor Friday night.
“We were able to get some of the wrinkles out,” Buzea said. “We also found out there are some things we need to work on. We had too many major penalties tonight.”
The Vikings were penalized six times for 90 yards. Other than that, Buzea was able to get 95 players into the game.
Senior quarterback Tim Williams completed 4-of-4 passes for 64 yards and three touchdowns in only one quarter of action. Senior running back Sheldon Jones also only saw action in the opening quarter also and rushed three times for 39 yards and a touchdown.
The Vikings led 27-0 after one quarter and 62-0 at the half.
Junior Taje Smith rushed six times for 77 yards and four touchdowns before sitting down at the half.
Senn averted the shutout with 21 seconds left when quarterback Lorenzo Powell hit Jermaine Baker with a 39-yard touchdown pass.
“This was good because we got a lot of kids in the game,” Buzea said. “They worked hard all summer too.”
H-F’s defense held Senn to a negative eight yards rushing in the first half and to 44 yards passing.
