Schaumburg came back from a subpar performance on the vault to come back and claim their first Mid Suburban gymnastics title Friday at Rolling Meadows.

After trailing by over two points after the first rotation, Schaumburg was nearly perfect and finished with a 146.013. Fremd was second with a 144.275 and Prospect was third with a 143.30.

"We had a great week of practice," Schaumburg coach Jamie Stilling said. "And I think the girls bought in to what the coaches told them. They just never gave up. "

The Saxons were led by Ashley Miller, who won the conference all-around title for the second consecutive year with a 37.388.

"The way we did vault helped us," Miller said. "It kicked us into gear.

I was happy with the way I competed. My floor wasn't as good as I liked, but I know I can change that."

Other key contributors for Schaumburg were Brooke Shimon, who was 6th in the all-around with a 36.475, Erin Barrett, who was 7th in the all-around with a 36.275 and her sister Caitlin, who was 8th with a 35.875.

"People have been underestimating us all year," said Shimon, who won the bars with a 9.65. "After our vault it was a slap in the face and we said, "Let's go!""

Fremd's Maegan Wochinski, who was second in the all-around with a 37.15, won the vault with a 9.475.

Palatine's Nicole Kuksuk was third in the all-around with a 36.875 and won the beam with a 9.525.

Prospect's Gianna Scala was fourth in the all-around with a 36.625 and won the floor with a 9.55.

Barrington's Lexi Marsella was fifth in the all-around with a 36.525.
