Shepard Little (12 carries, 99 yards) scored on runs of five, 58, 10 and three yards and Mark Ianotti threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Bob Quilico and scored on an 18-yard run to lead No. 21 Schaumburg (5-2, 2-1) over Conant 42-21 in the Mid-Suburban West.
"Our coaches say to have a short memory,'' said Ianotti, who completed 7 of 14 passes for 80 yards and rushed 12 times for 101 yards. "Knowing that it was Conant, our big crosstown rival, picked up everybody's intensity. We carried over what we did into practice into the game [tonight]."
Matt Cullen (11 of 14 passing, 157 yards) threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Mark Zielinski and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jake Valas for Conant. Cordell Clark also scored on a 14-yard touchdown run for Cougars (2-5, 0-3).
Cullen was sacked eight times by the Saxons' defense including 5 1/2 sacks by defensive tackle Joe Zolper.
"There's no such thing as a solo sack,'' Zolper said. "It takes the whole team. It takes the defensive ends keeping the quarterback in the pocket. It takes the defensive backs covering their men, and it takes the linebackers doing all of those things on the football field."
