Dazzo dazzles for Prospect

Updated: March 22, 2011 5:30PM

It was the Steve Dazzo show in Rolling Meadows on Friday night. The Prospect quarterback ran wild over a bewildered Mustang defense on his way to 145 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in the 40-7 Knights victory. The win gives Prospect coach Brent Pearlman his 100th career victory.

Dazzo dazzled early. On Prospect's opening drive, he spearheaded a ground attack that quickly led to a first-and-10 on the Rolling Meadows 15-yard line. On the very next snap, Dazzo faked the run, freezing the Mustang defense and leaving running back Grant DePalma wide open to catch the screen pass for a touchdown.

Dazzo truly put his athletic prowess on display on the next possession as he broke three tackles and burst down the sideline for a 61-yard touchdown, giving Prospect (5-1, 2-0) the 13-0 lead.

"The line was making key blocks all game. It was just there," said Dazzo. "It's been a different offense this year. We'll get five yards every time we need it. We didn't need to throw it tonight."

After Rolling Meadows scored to cut the Knight lead to 13-7, Dazzo led an 80-yard drive that was finished by a 22-yard touchdown in which he broke three tackles.
