Rochelle knocks off Robeson

Rochelle got three touchdowns each from Ben Schwartz and Josh Bernardin to down previously unbeaten Robeson 40-13 in the opening round of the class 5A playoffs.

Robeson (9-1) took the early advantage when Martinez Young connected with Deonte Stevens on a halfback option pass to give the Raiders a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Rochelle (6-4) responded with 32 unanswered points as Schwartrz scored on runs of 2 and 55 yards. The senior also had a 15 yard return after a blocked punt. He finished with 118 yards rushing and his two yard run put Rochelle up for good at 12-6 late in the first half.

Bernardin scored on runs of 3, 1 and 8 yards. The sophomore tailback finished with 94 yards.

Young finished with 76 yards and Christopher Sesson had a touchdown for Robeson.
