Proviso West rolls by rival East

Proviso West senior running back Julius Johnson went over the 100-yard

rushing mark for the third straight game in a 40-0 win over Proviso East

(0-3) in a West Suburban Conference crossover on Saturday in Hillside.

Johnson finished the day with 171 yards rushing on 19 carries. He also had

touchdown runs of 26 and nine yards for the Panthers (3-0).

The last 7.7 seconds of the game were not played.

Several Proviso East coaches were upset after Proviso West reserve

quarterback Quincy Cole threw a touchdown pass to Brandon Bryant in the

closing seconds.

"It's personal," Proviso West coach Famous Hulbert said. "We got

disrespected the last time (Proviso East) came over here (2008). Some red

mouth pieces were accidentally sent to Proviso East and they wore them the

entire season.

"After the game (which Proviso East won) they threw them up in the air at

the 50-yard line on our field and left them there. I will never forgive or

forget what they did."

Hulbert was also upset there was not a film exchange between the two

District 209 rivals after Week 2.

"I did not see what happened (two years ago)," Proviso East coach Aaron

Peppers said. "That was not orchestrated by me. I do not teach that."

Proviso West quarterback Malik Thurman (eight completions, 104 yards) and Jevar

Glover both had touchdown runs of one yard in the first quarter.

Cole also threw a 19-yard TD pass to Ryan Woods.
