Aaron Peppers' resignation last week as Proviso East football coach leaves the 14-team West Suburban Conference with five openings since the season ended last month.
Peppers resigned after six years. The Pirates went 0-9 this season, 0-6 in the West Suburban Gold.
"We'll have the (position) posted and look for somebody in house," Proviso East Athletic Director Glenn Gustafson said. "We will not have an outside coach. We'll pick from within the district. We will not look outside the district. People have already shown an interest."
Under Peppers, the Pirates went 23-33 overall.
Peppers' best season was in 2008 when the Pirates (8-3) finished second in the West Suburban Gold and lost at Downers Grove North 16-0 in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs. Proviso East opened the postseason with a 20-14 win over Steinmetz (6-4).
Peppers joins Hinsdale South's Alex Bitto, Hinsdale Central's Mike DiMatteo, Oak Park's Jim Nudera and Willowbrook's Mark Olson as coaches within the conference who have resigned since the season ended Oct. 23.
