Jose Almaraz scored three goals for No. 7 Morton in a 7-0 win over Proviso East in

the semifinal round of the Morton Class 3A Regional on Tuesday.

Almaraz, who has four goals this season, has played in only three varsity

games for the Mustangs (19-3-3) after being called up from the JV level.

"He has given us a spark at the forward position," Morton coach Mike Caruso

said. "I liked what I saw during the JV season. He's small, but isn't afraid

to go to the goal. That's how he got two of the goals."

Morton broke the game open with five goals in the second half.

"The score does not represent how well we played," Proviso East coach David

Moss said.

Jose Montes, Hector Ibarra, Addiel Salgado and Danny Vargas also scored for

the Mustangs. Alonso Torres had two assists.

Morton goalie Kenny Kucinski earned the shutout and made three saves.
