Cotopolis leads Barrington

Updated: March 22, 2011 5:30PM

Senior goalkeeper Will Cotopolis earned his third consecutive shutout Saturday to continue Barrington's revived season.

The Broncos started 0-4-2, but have won nine of their last 10 games to move into first place in the Mid-Suburban League standings with 21 points. Charlie Giovenco scored the game's only goal with 8:53 remaining in the first half to give the Broncos a 1-0 win over Prospect at Barrington's homecoming.

"We're playing much harder and getting into tackles harder. We're talking more," said Cotopolis, a senior, who missed the beginning of the season due to a broken right thumb.

Cotopolis has 4 1/2 shutouts on the season. During his current streak, he previously blanked Buffalo Grove 5-0 on Sept. 28 and Schaumburg 1-0 on Sept. 30.

The Broncos (10-6-2, 7-2 MSL) have allowed only two goals in their last six games. The last goal Barrington has allowed was in a 2-1 win over Niles North Sept. 25.

Prospect (9-4-2, 5-4) had a chance at ruining Cotopolis' shutout late in the game, but the keeper was able to make the save on a header.
